Design a One-of-a-Kind Piece

Start the Designing Process

I love working with clients to create a piece tailored to their home or office. The process often begins when they see a design I’ve made before and want to customize it - whether in size, details, or materials. After discussing their vision, I provide a proposal that includes a detailed drawing and pricing. The drawing outlines the design, materials, and dimensions. Once we refine the details and the client approves the plan, I request a 25% deposit to begin. As I build the piece, I share progress updates with photos. Lead times typically range from 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the complexity of the project and my workload.

A hand-drawn sketch of a furniture piece, likely a wardrobe or cabinet, with handwritten labels indicating parts. The top is labeled as "Back Cherry Top (Live Edge Front)," the side leg is labeled "Black Oak Legs," the front section is noted as "Reclaimed Oak Door & Drawers," and the height is marked as "5" or 6"?".

We initially contacted Colin for a “few items”, mainly a custom vanity desk and a picture frame but ended up furnishing nearly our entire home! Colin does excellent work, he listened closely to our vision of what we needed and wanted and kept us informed along the way. Since my husband and I both have disabilities it can be tough finding furniture that will work with our unique needs. We worked then with Colin in designing a red oak dining room table, ambrosia maple end table, maple bookcase, ash vanity, and maple media cabinet. They were made with the exact measurements, drawer pulls, and ease of drawer mechanisms that we needed for the best access for us. It doesn’t hurt that they are all beautiful to look at and touch. We would recommend Wurtz Woodcraft to anyone looking for custom, beautiful wood furniture — a rarity in this world of mass-produced low-quality wares.
